Corylus colurna
- Height: up to 20 m, exceptions up to 25 m
- Trunk: strikingly fissured scaly bark
- Leaves: broadly ovate, 5-15 cm long, double serrated, heart-shaped base
- Flowers: yellow catkins up to 12 cm long, in March/April
- Fruits/seeds: ball-shaped clusters, edible nuts (approx. 2 cm) with bristly husk
