Pterocarya fraxinifolia
- Height: up to 20 m
- Trunk: short, thick trunk with black-grey, net-like, longitudinally fissured bark, often multi-stemmed
- Crown: dense, domed crown, often broadly spreading
- Leaves: alternate, imparipinnate, 20–45 cm long with 7–27 ovate to oblong-lanceolate, toothed leaflets (each approx. 5–12 cm long), underside covered with stellate hairs along the midrib
- Buds: brown, small, and elongated
- Flowers: yellow, up to 12 cm long, pendulous, male catkins; terminal; green, up to 15 cm long, pendulous, female catkins in April/May
- Fruits/Seeds: 2–3 cm wide, wooden, single-seeded nuts with two distinct semicircular wings, attached to elongated catkin axes, in September/October
- Other: highly adaptable to frost and drought
