Prunus domestica

  • Height: up to 15 m
  • Trunk: reddish-brown to grey, smooth to fissured
  • Crown: rounded, spherical, or broad, open
  • Leaves: alternate, obovate with a pointed tip, approx. 3–8 cm long, initially hairy on both sides, later with a bare upper surface, serrated margin, petiolate
  • Buds: bud scales overlap like roof tiles
  • Flowers: white flowers, short-stalked, 2–3 in clusters, appearing with new growth in March/April
  • Fruits/Seeds: egg-shaped, roundish, or elongated stone fruit; yellow, red, or purple in colour; sweet to tart yellow flesh; smooth stone; in August through October
