Morus spp.
- Height: up to 15 m
- Trunk: short, thick, and usually twisted trunk; brown to grey-brown bark, initially smooth, later furrowed, fibrous, and soft, thickened with knots
- Crown: spreading and broad, open
- Leaves: alternate, diverse, broadly heart-shaped or ovate, up to about 20 cm long, with a short tip, coarsely serrated margin, petiolate
- Flowers: inconspicuous, greenish, stalked, pendulous catkins, numerous in compact spikes in the leaf axils, male inflorescences with slightly longer stalks, in May/June
- Fruits/Seeds: blackberry-like stone fruit, white/red/dark purple to black, edible, sweet, in June/July
- Other: best-known species are the white mulberry (Morus alba) and the black mulberry (Morus nigra)
