Aesculus spp.
- Height: up to 25 m
- Trunk: grey-brown to reddish-brown bark, usually growing in a clockwise spiral
- Crown: broad, rounded, and dense
- Leaves: palmate, composed of 5–7 leaflets, double-serrated margin, long petiole, club-shaped at the base
- Buds: brown, egg-shaped
- Flowers: conspicuous, large, upright panicles in April/May/June
- Fruits/Seeds: large, yellow-green, spherical, spiny capsules containing 1–3 shiny seeds
- Other: Common urban and street tree; fruits are inedible and mildly toxic
