Prunus cerasifera
- Height: up to 10 m
- Trunk: short and often multi-stemmed, frequently shrub-like, reddish-brown to grey-black bark, longitudinally fissured
- Crown: branched, irregular and rather broad to globose, dense
- Leaves: alternate, approx. 3–7 cm long, elliptical to ovate, finely serrated margin, petiolate
- Flowers: white to pale pink, strongly fragrant, approx. 2 cm wide, appearing before or with the emergence of foliage in March/April
- Fruits/Seeds: spherical drupes, 2–3 cm in size, yellow, red, or dark purple with edible flesh, from July/August
- Other: important source of nectar for bees and food for birds
