Salix spp.

  • Height: depending on the species, shrub-like to larger tree
  • Trunk: fast-growing, often hollow inside
  • Leaves: elliptical to lanceolate, pointed, alternate
  • Flowers: catkin-shaped
  • Other: 300 to 400 species worldwide, around 30 to 40 different willow species in Germany, usually with strong elasticity of the branches
