Quercus cerris
- Height: up to 35 m
- Trunk: dark grey, longitudinally fissured bark
- Leaves: alternate, oblong-elliptic, deeply lobed, often irregularly shaped, 8–12 cm long, dark green and glossy, rough
- Buds: surrounded by thread-like stipules/bud scales (approx. 2 cm long)
- Flowers: yellow, male, pendulous catkins; 1–4 female flowers with very short stalks at branch tips; in April/May; attractive to pollinators
- Fruits/Seeds: egg-shaped fruits with spiny caps/cups clustered together
