Acer pseudoplatanus
- Height: up to 30 m, exceptions up to 40 m
- Trunk: silvery to grey-brown bark, flaking in scales with a “camouflage” pattern
- Leaves: opposite, 5-lobed, the upper 3 lobes roughly equal in size, the lower lobe often only faintly visible, lobes acute-angled, serrated margin, 10–20 cm wide, upper surface dark green, lower surface grey-green, petiole often tinged with red, without sap
- Buds: egg-shaped with green bud scales
- Flowers: yellow-green, rather inconspicuous flowers in loose, grape-like panicles, appearing with new foliage in April/May
- Fruits/Seeds: Fruits with winged samaras for wind dispersal, approx. 3 cm; wings spread at right angles
