Pinus spp.
- Height: up to 30 m depending on the species, with some reaching up to 50 m
- Trunk: varied trunk, initially thin, grey to yellowish bark, later thick and rough, deeply furrowed, longitudinally fissured and scaly, rich in resin
- Crown: conical, later usually open, widely spreading, branches horizontal to slightly upright
- Leaves: 2–5 needles per needle sheath on short shoots, very thin, pointed, approx. 4–15 cm long, often slightly twisted
- Flowers: yellow to orange male flowers in clusters on young shoots, reddish female flowers
- Fruits/Seeds: egg-shaped or conical cones with thick scales, brown and woody when mature, with winged seeds
