Quercus rubra
- Height: up to 30 m, occasionally up to 50 m
- Trunk: Bark grey-brown, smooth, becoming furrowed with age
- Leaves: alternate, distinctly and sharply lobed, 10–25 cm long, with reddish-brown tufts of hair in the leaf axils on the underside, with long petioles (2–5 cm)
- Buds: light brown, clustered at the ends of branches
- Fruits/Seeds: globular, stout, thick fruits with caps/cups on short stalks, clustered together
- Other: striking red autumn color
