Quercus rubra
- Height: up to 25 m
- Stem: grey-brown bark, smooth, only furrowed with age
- Leaves: clearly and pointedly lobed, 10-22 cm long, reddish-brown tufts of hair on the underside, with long petioles (2-5 cm)
- Buds: light brown, clustered at the end of the branch
- Fruits/seeds: spherical, compact fruits with small fruit cups on short stalks, clustered in groups
- Other: striking red autumn colouring
