Betula pubescens

Height: up to 20 m
Trunk: strikingly white (betulin), smooth bark, cracking and darkening with age, reddish in colour
Leaves: broadly ovate, 4-6 cm long, hairy on top and underneath
Fruits/seeds: 2-3 cm long catkins
Other: overhanging densely hairy branches
