Moor birch

Betula pubescens

  • Height: up to 20 m
  • Trunk: strikingly white (betulin), smooth bark, cracking and darkening with age, reddish in colour
  • Leaves: broadly ovate, 4-6 cm long, hairy on top and underneath
  • Fruits/seeds: 2-3 cm long catkins
  • Other: overhanging densely hairy branches
