Populus nigra 'Italica'
- Height: up to 30 m
- Trunk: dark grey to black, with thick, deeply fissured, furrowed bark when mature
- Crown: narrow, columnar
- Leaves: triangular to rhombic in shape, finely toothed margin, long tip, long-stalked, upper surface glossy dark green
- Flowers: male catkins 5–9 cm long, initially red, later greyish-white, pendulous, and shorter, female yellow-green catkins in March/April before leaf emergence
- Fruits/Seeds: two-valved capsules with hairy seeds in May/June
- Other: Common street tree in urban areas, derived from the native black poplar with steeply upright branches
