Tilia platyphyllos
- Height: up to 40 m
- Trunk: grey to blackish-brown bark, longitudinally fissured
- Leaves: alternate, heart-shaped, 7–15 cm long, angled, serrated edges, upper side loosely hairy, with small tufts of white hair in leaf vein axils
- Buds: ovoid, red, egg-shaped, slightly hairy, usually with 2 scales
- Flowers: yellowish-white, in drooping, corymbose inflorescences, in June/July (slightly earlier than the small-leaved linden), strongly scented, valuable for pollinators
- Fruits/Seeds: small, spherical, felt-covered nut fruits (approx. 5 mm) with 1 wing, stemmed
