Prunus spp.
- Height: up to 20 m depending on the species, exceptions up to 30 m
- Trunk: reddish to brownish-grey bark, smooth to shallowly fissured, partly glossy; lenticels form distinct horizontal structures/transverse bands
- Crown: rounded, often broadly spreading
- Leaves: alternate, oblong-ovate to elliptical, pointed
- Flowers: profuse, fragrant, white to pink flowers in umbel-like or raceme-like clusters
- Fruits/Seeds: Stone fruits with a hard pit, fleshy on the outside and often edible
