Prunus spp.

  • Height: up to 20 m depending on the species, exceptions up to 30 m
  • Trunk: reddish to brownish-grey bark, smooth to shallowly fissured, partly glossy; lenticels form distinct horizontal structures/transverse bands
  • Crown: rounded, often broadly spreading
  • Leaves: alternate, oblong-ovate to elliptical, pointed
  • Flowers: profuse, fragrant, white to pink flowers in umbel-like or raceme-like clusters
  • Fruits/Seeds: Stone fruits with a hard pit, fleshy on the outside and often edible
