Betula spp.
- Height: up to 20 m
- Crown: usually narrow
- Trunk: strikingly white (betulin), smooth bark, cracks and darkens with age
- Leaves: diamond-shaped to triangular, ovate, 4-7 cm long
- Fruits/seeds: elongated catkins
- Other: very thin, fine twigs, often drooping
