Betula spp.

  • Height: up to 20 m
  • Crown: usually narrow
  • Trunk: strikingly white (betulin), smooth bark, cracks and darkens with age
  • Leaves: diamond-shaped to triangular, ovate, 4-7 cm long
  • Fruits/seeds: elongated catkins
  • Other: very thin, fine twigs, often drooping
