- Trunk: smooth bark at first, light to dark grey-brown bark flaking off in scales with age
- Crown: mostly broad
- Leaves: elliptical to ovate, up to 12 cm long, soft-haired underside
- Flowers: white to pink flowers, in April/May
- Fruits/seeds: edible fruit, green to red depending on species
- Other: around 30,000 different apple varieties worldwide, 2,000 in Germany
