Malus spp.

• Height: up to 10 m
• Trunk: initially smooth bark, later light to dark grey-brown, peeling in scales
• Crown: usually broad
• Leaves: alternate, elliptical to ovate, up to 12 cm long, dark green on top, soft-haired to felt-like underneath
• Flowers: white to pink, late April
• Fruits/Seeds: edible capsule, green to red depending on the variety
• Other: Approx. 30,000 different apple varieties worldwide, 2,000 in Germany
